I agree with your points here. I think maybe Tridandi Maharaj saw fit to give the booklets as a reminder that he was giving connection to Srila Gurudeva and not himself. Perhaps also reminding that Mantram also gives divya jnanam as such as can be found in the books.

This raises a vital question for me:

Past two days I’ve been watching videos via your site. I particularly liked the 1997 discussion about Japa and mala video ( I could hear you asking some of the questions ).

During watching the video I realised that Gurudeva was present in the video. I could not perceive any sense that he was not present in the world as he was there in the video.

Some devotees say that one must be in direct physical presence of a maha bhagavat and that videos/ audio/ books are passive..but I feel that these things could well bring forth the full presence of the Acarya if the recipient has the right attitude.

Yes. Right attitude is everything. Even without video, etc., if we are ever alert in our searching, we will find Sri Guru present everywhere.

That “right attitude” is a very exalted position. I first heard the “books are passive” idea from Srila Sridhara Maharaja and his explanation is also true. Until we are in that exalted position, we will get more benefit by serving a higher Vaishnava. That was his point.

Saints: Living Scriptures

Student: So, how can we develop our faith in Krsna consciousness?

Sridhara Maharaja: How have you come to conceive of Krsna consciousness?

Student: By reading Bhagavad Gita.

Sridhara Maharaja: Bhagavad Gita. From the scriptures. And the scriptures are written by whom? Some saint. So, the association of saints and the advice of scriptures are both necessary. The saint is the living scripture, and the scripture advises us in a passive way.

A saint can actively approach us, and passively we may receive benefit from the scriptures. The association of the scriptures and the saints can help us achieve the ultimate realization: sadhu sastra krpaya haya. The saints are more powerful. Those who are living the life of the scriptural advice are scripture personified. In their association, and by their grace, we can imbibe such higher, subtle knowledge and faith.—SSK

Is this paradigm

[During watching the video I realised that Gurudeva was present in the video. I could not perceive any sense that he was not present in the world as he was there in the video.

correct or false?

I also feel you are right about six Acaryas=six missions. This is a logical plan for expansion. We know that Gurudeva wanted global preaching for Srila Gurumaharajas conception. But maybe this has now been minimised and diluted and that the conception that certain Acaryas have of Gurudevas will has interfered.

I am not sure, all I know is that things don’t feel right and everyone I spoke with previously had their own so called conclusion.

That is my understanding and belief founded on Srila Sridhara Maharaja’s opinion (expressed in 1982) related to ISKCON’s GBC who he determined had deviated from the directions given by Srila Prabhupada. There are many examples to draw from, here is one.

@18 – Paraphrasing (speaking about the ISKCON GBC)
I am such a virulant poison, such a severe warning against my association. I am open. What I speak can be examined to see if it is in concert with the teachings of the scriptures, etc

20:40 – guru bhogi, exploitation in the name of God in the name of the guru, the Vaishnava, the shastra, it is also existent. “Perhaps now the time has come to make us careful for the contamination of such anartha, undesirable exploitation in the name of the Lord. Let us, let us accept the poverty, the helplessness (existent with our failure??) and for any proposal of any other alternative, wealth, resources

Srila Sridhara Maharaja spoke and Srila Prabhupada also spoke and wrote many similar things regarding their experience with their Godbrothers after the disappearance of Srila Saraswati Thakura.

Both of them pointed to items of core deviation that caused them to completely reject some of their Godbrothers as acharyas, even those that outwardly showed themselves as comporting with general Vaishnava etiquette and behavior as most of them did.

That the IAB [International Acharya Board] immediately deviated from Srila Gurudeva’s Will is irrefutable. As you know, I found this to be a core deviation of the most grave proportions. They have done nothing to rehabilitate themselves since then and history shows it’s unlikely they will, in this lifetime.

Others may see the same deviation and find it excusable or less serious than I do. There are always a variety of opinions.

I do not like to say such negative things about those that Srila Gurudeva clearly loves and trusted with the heaviest of responsibilities. But I cannot deceive myself and pretend my eyes do not see what is clearly in front of them. They will continue in the line of Krishna Consciousness but they are cheating the very devotees they were entrusted to shelter and that cannot go unnoticed.

Srila Prabhupada once wrote “Actually, amongst my Godbrothers no one is qualified to become acharya.” and among those Srila Govinda Maharaja named, my conclusion is the same. How can one be an acharya while spreading false propaganda within days of the disappearance of the previous acharya? And, how can one be acharya who will not speak out against such things, who is afraid to speak the truth?

It gives me no pleasure to point to these things because I know it does not help me. That is to say, the disqualification of others does not mean I am qualified, or increase my qualification. My position is not enhanced by lessoning their position. Actually, they are all bigger than me in their accomplishments. That they are bigger, however, does not mean they are correct. I am not very qualified, but at least I am telling the truth. I am trying to stick to the truth and not adopt changes to the philosophy or Gurudeva’s instructions as a matter of convenience. I am not trying to change anything.

As I said before, the others did great seva for our gurus. I know that will not be forgotten and eventually they must be drawn to the correct position by the grace of Sri Sri Guru Gauranga, but they are not there now. So, I am reminded of Srila Govinda Maharaja’s statement about Sagara Maharaja (Swarupananda) “He will be okay, but those that follow him will go to hell.” I don’t offer that statement to mean there is a precise correlation between Swarupananda and the others, but there are certainly points of similarity which cannot easily be dismissed.

Why isn’t the conclusion/ conception universal amongst the devotees?

You should ask Jadurani devi [Subal Vilasa’s wife], she thinks she can see everything as “one.” There is no duality for her, but I don’t believe that’s what you want.

Anyhow, a personal update on my own situation is due:

Heart condition is stable but no one can say what will or won’t happen, but I know I must be careful with all aspects of my life.

We are moving to a bigger house in January so more space for wife and kids. I am sure that will help bring more harmony into our situation.

Our income is modest and steady via social security payments we are entitled to.

There are details but unnecessary to elaborate.

All good news. It’s good to hear you will have some small security by way of some SS income.

I am trying to be more steady spiritually, it has been difficult due to the material situations. But much solace comes from your association and from the media on your site ( thank you).

I’m very happy to hear this news and that our efforts to distribute some nectar are being rewarded.

As always, any correspondence from myself may be used if and when needed for any purpose you deem fit

Very good. I’m glad you mentioned that. I was thinking to post my previous two emails to you.

You are not alone. Srila Gurudeva is always with you and with him is Krishna, his dhama, His devotees and all good fortune.

param vijayate sri krishna sankirtanam

Affectionately,

Giri Maharaja
